In the past few years, Samsung has deployed a series of atypical smartphones in China: the “W” series. The family is powered by a new model each year, and its ergonomics are different from their competitors: they are all flip phones. Until last year, members of the W series were equipped with two Super AMOLED touch screens, one for the inside and one for the outside. The W2019 in November 2018 is a good example.
If the W20 5G is no longer clamshell?
But as evidenced by the various leaks on the Motorola Razr 2019, it makes sense to integrate a flexible screen internally. And Samsung clearly understands. Indeed, this week, the Korean brand has already sent an invitation to the Chinese media to invite reporters to participate in the official display of “W20 5G”, which you have read in our column. The event will be held in Wuhan (Central Region), Hubei Province. The date chosen by Samsung is November 19. In about ten days. It will be done at the end of the day (and therefore at the end of the European morning).
In the invitation display that comes with this article, you can see that the W20 5G looks more like a Galaxy Fold than a flip-type smartphone. We found a vertical hinge and a triple photoelectric sensor with a folding function. According to recent rumors, the W20 5G may be the 5G version of the Galaxy Fold. This is what this picture implies. Remember, Galaxy Fold is already sold in China (very popular in China).
Planning changes?
Therefore, the new information about the W20 5G is certainly reassuring, and this information must reassure Lenovo and Motorola's leaders (Razr 2019 should be officially listed within a few days). But even if they contradict all the findings about it in recent months, the information is not contradictory.
Indeed, given the difficulties of the Samsung Galaxy Fold, it is not surprising that Samsung has decided to change its W20 5G plan by recalling and correcting the problem to improve the frame and hinges (to protect the flexible screen from dust and poor grip). Therefore, converting the latter to the 5G version of the Galaxy Fold can be a backup solution to avoid new setbacks.
