The ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo is one of the most exciting and innovative notebooks available today. But I am not entirely sure that it is actually a good machine.
This is a £3,000 laptop with two screens. The main screen is a retina with a stunning bright 4K OLED panel, while the ScreenPad Plus auxiliary display - a 14-inch 32:9 touch screen - is located above the keyboard.

Both panels have impressive heading specifications. The main 15.6-inch touchscreen features OLED support for great brightness and contrast, and its 4K resolution delivers impressive clarity and detail - perfect for a variety of creative work.
ScreenPad Plus is the place where ASUS truly innovates. This is a 14-inch IPS touch screen with a 32:9 aspect ratio - so it's wide enough to fit in the top half of the base. It runs at resolutions of up to 3,840 x 1,100.
Mainly the second screen is an extension of the main 4K panel, but I found the dual screen layout to be useful in several different situations. I was able to push Spotify to the second panel, so I could focus on using the main panel, for example, on another occasion, when I focused on editing some photos, I was able to keep Spotify and Skype unaffected by the main team.
The bottom panel can be used to run two or three applications side by side, and some Windows applications (such as Evernote) have their own modules. You can choose to group your applications together and then click on a button to open them at the same time - helping to increase productivity.
The screen automatically divides the software evenly into 3,840 pixel widths - so multitasking is very intuitive. When you play a game on the home screen, you can open the message and streaming app below. You can also spread a single application on the panel - for example, editing the timeline on the lower screen while leaving the video on the top display

design
ZenBook's two screens and powerful internal structure contribute to Asus's design choices - and they often help to compromise.
Take the size. This is not the usual thin ASUS laptop - it weighs 2.5 kg and is 24 mm thick. You'll notice that ZenBook is on your backpack, which is much larger than other laptops that professionals might consider - the Apple MacBook Pro 15 weighs 1.8 kilograms and has a thickness of 16 millimeters.
At least ZenBook's volume helps provide good build quality. Pro Duo is like a tank, I don't hesitate to throw it in a bag without a protective cover.
ZenBook is also not a style icon. It's made of brushed aluminum, but its dark panels, visible seams and visible vents mean it doesn't look as smooth as most expensive laptops.
Keyboard and trackpad
The ScreenPad means that the ergonomic design of ZenBook has been changed, the keyboard is touched at the front edge of the machine, and the touchpad is mounted next to the right edge. This is not the first time ASUS has done this - it has made some changes to some Zephyrus gaming laptops.

performance
The internal structure of ZenBook is an important reason why this machine is so thick. ASUS is designed for work, so its specifications can handle almost anything.
The star of the show is the Core i9-9980HK. It is one of Intel's most powerful mobile chips, with eight hyper-threaded cores, a base speed of 2.4GHz and an enhanced peak of 5GHz. It comes with a powerful 32GB of RAM. Whether you're using high-resolution photos, 4K video, a large database or a CAD application, this processor and this memory can handle it. Eight cores and a lot of memory also means high-end multitasking is also easy.
