Use the right power adapter for your laptop!

What does AC input and DC output mean for a laptop adapter?
AC INPUT: AC, consisting of volts and amps.
DC OUTPUT: DC, consisting of volts and amps.

Have you ever wondered if it works, if you were traveling with your laptop in different countries and have used different plugs and voltage inputs? The answer to this question is actually on your laptop adapter label.

On each laptop power supply you will find the input and output information. That's very important to know! In the United States e.g. 110V 60Hz are used in the socket. Most other countries use 220V 50 Hz, so how can you make sure your laptop or adapter does not overheat?

Here are a few tips:
You have to know where to read the information. Each power supply from each laptop has a label that contains very important information. One of the most important information is the input and output voltages. If this information is not found or you are not sure, then ask someone who knows. Never just plug your laptop into a power outlet in another country. Fortunately, most power supplies are suitable for both 110V and 220V. Also, most power supplies come with 50- and 60 Hertz.

If you borrow a power supply because you forgot yours, then it is also important to know how many watts the power supply provides.
If your computer needs 60 watts of power, you should not use a power supply that provides more than twice the power, that is, 120 watts.
But you can use a power supply with 100 watts.
A power supply with less than 60 watts, however, would not work.

The use of an inappropriate power supply can have harmful consequences. In the worst case, it can damage your laptop motherboard. The power adapter may overheat or your laptop battery may be damaged. So make sure you know what your laptop needs!

If you do not find wattage information, but ampere information, you can convert this to watts.
Example:
You will find the following name on your power supply:
Input: 100 ~ 240V - 50/60 Hz
Output: 19.5V
Power: 4,62A
1. You can use this power supply with 100 to 240 volts worldwide. It works with 50 and 60 Hz.
2. The output voltage is 19.5 volts which your computer needs
3. The power of the power supply is 4.62 amps
To get the power in watts you can calculate:
Output 19.5V * Power 4.62A = 90W

In this case, do not use a foreign power adapter with more than 180 watts and none with less than 90 watts!
